From region-led organisation
to matrix model with global delivery teams

Leading a global large scale organisational transformation programme

A Skarbek effect case study

Skarbek helped a Japanese Pharmaceutical company transform its commercial function from a region-led organisation to a matrix model involving the creation of global service delivery teams. In the space of a few days, Skarbek mobilised a highly-experienced Project Manager to establish a project structure and lead the project to a key go-live milestone for the global SVP business Sponsors.

Skarbek Associates case study
The needs
  • The objective was to create a new organisation with seven global capability areas involving 240 people transitioning to the new organisation
  • The key challenge was to change the organisation structure and build new capabilities, whilst still delivering existing excellent service
  • The communication and engagement plan was highly complex, including co-ordination and delivery of engagement with trades unions and works councils in multiple countries
  • The project also involved the creation of budgets for new capability areas and identification of savings opportunities of US$70M
How we helped

Within a few days, Skarbek mobilised an experienced Project Manager who designed and implemented a full suite of Project Management tools and techniques including:

  • Multi workstream Project Management approach
  • Deliverables, milestones and workstream plans
  • Dependencies between workstreams
  • Issue and risk management and mitigation
  • Project Governance in place with weekly team and sponsor reporting
  • Steering Committee management and reporting, as well as presentations to Commercial Leadership Team and Executive Committee
  • Coaching for PMO assistant to enable her to transition into PM role for final three month phase of project via Skarbek ‘DNA-transfer’ proprietary capability building tools
  • The project was designed, led to a successful “Go Live”, and handed-over successfully
The results

After deploying our Project Management approach, the Project Team quickly gained momentum and were able to deliver a key project milestone with the go-live of the new organisation structure. In addition, the project team delivered:

  • Roadmap and plan for new global capability building
  • Engagement with unions and works councils to enable new organisation
  • Continued excellent service delivery during design of new organisation and transition to go-live
  • A successful transition from PMO assistant to PM role
