Stephen brings a wide variety of experience from a 13-year career in start-ups, highly entrepreneurial SMEs, and merging blue-chip firms across the FMCG, retail, hospitality, and real-estate sectors. Stephen’s core expertise is in innovation process improvement & project/program management, as well as establishing operational excellence, especially in third-party FMCG environments. He offers a passion for in-depth business analysis and insight, leading continuous improvement programs, and developing a company’s team & leadership capability to productively continue such work. Stephen sees key enablers of truly transformational change being seamless integration of new technology and cultural change management, both of which he has had consistent success at helping companies deliver.

Strengths and Career Achievements

Prior to Skarbek Associates, Stephen held senior management positions in both Procter & Gamble and Coty, having had accountability for the EMEA and European External Operations results in these companies respectively. This meant delivering on all key metrics of product quality, supplier and customer service, cost accuracy and savings, cash-flow, and sustainability across multiple supply routes, for billion-dollar brands, with teams that spanned multiple continents.
Some of Stephen’s most significant achievements include: successfully planning and executing a restructuring program that resulted from one of the beauty industry’s largest ever mergers ($9bn revenue, 40k people), combatting process, IT system and cultural conflicts to achieve company-leading service results across 10 supplier sites; proposing and launching a website to update the innovation ideation process between Supply Chain, R&D and Marketing in a multi-national, cutting product development lead-times by 75%; devising and delivering 3-year continuous improvement and operational excellence roadmaps, guiding companies on vision & value setting, owning training programmes for developing team capability that landed 10% productivity gains, plus leading value-stream mapping and associated action plans to bring about transformational changes in supply performance.
Stephen is a qualified NLP Business Practitioner and Scrum Master, with a very solid understanding of Lean, Kaizen, PRINCE2, and Agile Project Management principles and methods. He has a 1st Class BSc. in Natural Sciences (Physics and Maths) from Durham University, as well as a Distinction in a Master of Business Management (MA) from the same University.
